So this week has definitely tested my strength. This week, yours truly came down with a sinus infection and had to get on antibiotics. Then yesterday my baby girl, Olivia, started running a fever. The fever of course got worse over night so this morning after a few hours of sleep here and there, I took her to Urgent Care this morning. “My throat mommy, it hurts so bad”. I thought for sure it was strep…but nope. “She has a virus” they said, “and unfortunately, we can’t give her anything for it.” It’s the words every mother hates to hear. It’s horrible to watch your kid feel so completely horrible and you can do nothing about it. So the day wears on, I of course do everything I can to make her feel better. Rent her some movies, get her a milk shake - pretty much whatever she wants. So, she’s watching her movie and then comes down to me crying and says, “mom, my throat hurts SOOO bad.” I feel her and she’s SOOO hot. I take her temperature and it’s 104.3. AHH!! What to do. I get the flash light out and check out her throat and to my shock I see all these tiny blisters all over the inside of her mouth! OH MY GOSH…WHAT IS THIS?? So here we go, on another trip to Urgent Care only this time, Children’s Mercy Hopsital. After what felt like forever we have a diagnosis, HERPANGINA. It’s a viral infection that creates blisters all over the inside of their mouth and results in VERY painful sores. In addition, some pretty high temperatures as well. My poor little girl can’t eat, can’t swallow and has a mouth FULL of blisters. Please pray for her. She’s in a lot of pain and since there is nothing but Motrin and Tylenol coming her way, my heart is breaking for her. Thank you all.
Wow, what a day…..

Oh poor thing. Both my boys had this last year. My 2 year old (one at the time) got it first. They told us he had hands, foot, mouth disease but he never had the blisters anywhere besides his mouth. Then my 6 year old (then 5) got it. It affected him the worse. He couldn’t eat, drink, etc
He finally ended up in the hospital dehydrated and on an iv. It’s then that we found out it wasn’t hands, foot, mouth but herpangina. They gave him some “magic mouthwash” (which he hated to take) but within 30 min. he was able to eat some mac and cheese. I feel your pain as a mommy. I truly know how difficult it is to see our babies in this much pain. I pray she gets better soon.
P.S. Did they tell you she would now get cold sores? Since getting herpangina they seem to break out in one - two cold sores every other month.
